When Birthday Photos Become a Tradition | San Ramon Portrait Photographer
Some portrait sessions become much more than a collection of photographs. They become a way to mark time.
I’ve been photographing this stylish girl since she was still in her mother’s belly. Every year, around her birthday, we meet again for a new set of portraits — a tradition that has grown right alongside her.
What makes these sessions particularly special is seeing how much of her own personality comes through. She loves fashion, enjoys being photographed, and has developed a sense of style that makes every session uniquely hers. It’s not simply about documenting another birthday. It’s about capturing who she is at this particular age, before the next chapter begins.
As a photographer, I get to see these little milestones from a perspective few people do: through images made year after year. The expressions change, the style evolves, and a little more of her personality emerges each time.
And it all started before she was even born.
There is something meaningful about returning to the same tradition each year. No two sessions are quite alike, yet together they tell a much bigger story — one of growing up, discovering personal style, and preserving the fleeting stages of childhood.
Birthday portraits are a beautiful way to celebrate who your child is becoming, one year at a time.
If you’ve been thinking about updating your child’s portraits around their birthday, consider making it an annual tradition. Years from now, the photographs will mean even more when you can look back and see just how far they’ve come.
